• Hi. I recently got hacked and had to reinstall parts of my site. I’ve downloaded a basic security plugin. What are the standard measures I can take to improve the sites security. I’m a basic level WordPress user, but some guidance would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance. Pete

  • There are various ways to get rid of “admin” as a username (and give hackers something to look for even before trying various passwords), and I began there. BulletProof Security does a good job of protecting things, imo, and Wordfence Security makes it easy to block IP addresses when I see attempts made to login as “admin” (making it is obvious someone or something is up to no good), and Wordfence Security also checks WordPress and plugin files for changes.

Changing the admin username offers minimal security. The real security is in your password – not your username.
