    This is my website: http://www.rairosewriting.com/

    I am using the theme called The Essayist.

    I want the sidebar that is displayed on this page to appear on ALL my pages: http://www.rairosewriting.com/2013/06/

    How do I get this to work?? I've tried a ton of coding options that were posted previously, bit I can't get any of them to work for me.

    Where did you get the theme from?

    I got it from here: http://wordpress.org/themes/the-essayist

    I know it's a couple years old, but there are several other sites that use this theme presently, so I know it's a good theme. I just want to add on to it - a side bar for the pages, not just the posts.

    The theme was last updated on 2009-05-31. Using such themes can cause compatibility issues and security risks. Why don't you try another theme from WordPress repository?

    I haven't found any others that I like as much. The theme works great! I just want to add a side bar to the pages.

    Try adding this:

    <div id="right">
    					<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
    				</div>

    to your page.php just above the line get_footer and see if it works.

    Ok, I did that and now it looks like this: http://www.rairosewriting.com/

    It's at the bottom of the page instead of on the right side of the content area. :-/ Ideas?

    It's because of the fixed container width and it can be corrected. However, I notice that you are running a very old version of WordPress (version 3.3.1). So, before doing anything else, you may:
    - update WordPress to the latest version,
    - update all plugins and other installed themes
    - create a Child Theme because editing/ customizing theme files directly can create problems.

    Ok, thanks! How do I change the fixed container width?

    What did you update? You are still running WordPress 3.3.1

    Oh, I went into WordPress and updated all the themes and plugins it said were outdated.

    How do I create a child theme?

    Right, I'm working on the list you provided:

    - update WordPress to the latest version,
    - update all plugins and other installed themes
    - create a Child Theme because editing/ customizing theme files directly can create problems.

    Can you tell me how to or direct me to a site that will help me create a child theme?

    Ok, I've done all that. Now how do I get the right sidebar to appear on my pages?

    Thank you to everyone who has been helping me. I really appreciate it!

    Well... The sidebar auto-disables if there are no widgets. Do you have any widgets currently in the sidebar?

    Yes, I do. There are widgets, but they are showing up under the left content at the bottom, instead of on the right: http://www.rairosewriting.com/

    Ah... Okay. Can you please post a screen-shot of your widgets admin panel?

    Hmm... There is not even a sidebar div. Can you check that your theme has something like a sidebar.php file? Strange.

    See, that's the problem. There is a sidebar div for the index.php page. And there is a sidebar.php file. However, the sidebar div isn't being pulled onto the post pages with the page.php file.

    Hmm... My best idea is to make a custom sidebar PHP loop in the index.php file. That way it'll always be pulled in. (The easiest way would possibly to just copy and paste the image from the sidebar.php file.)

    I think I did that, but the css (style.css) is not allowing the page to be the proper width for the side bar to be aligned on the right. It is still being pushed to the bottom: http://www.rairosewriting.com

    You may just try to play around with the with values for the columns or posts... I will try and help if you will please make another test post on the blog. That will help with the CSS width styling.

    I've been playing around with it for days and I've still had no luck getting it to where I want it.

    Here is the test PAGE: http://www.rairosewriting.com/

    But I want every page to look like this: http://www.rairosewriting.com/2013/06/

    I will not be using the posts in my website. I'll only be using pages. So I want the page layout to look like the post layout with the sidebar on the right.

    I just realized that the layout I like is the ARCHIVES page. So I want every page to have the same layout as the archives page (http://www.rairosewriting.com/2013/06/). I want every page to have the right-hand sidebar.
