After an unsuccessful auto update from WP 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 this error message appears at the top of the admin pages: "An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now."
The site has been manually updated to WP 3.0.4, but the error message persist. Interestingly, if the link to update is clicked it says that the latest version of WP is installed.
How can the warning message be removed?
Try hitting up
http://domain.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php
(can't remember we did that already...)

Yes, that's the file.
What needs to be done so that WP recognizes that the current version is installed and remove the message, "An automated WordPress...update again now"?
My concern is that I won't know when another update is available.
You don't still have a file called .maintenance lingering out there, do you?
If not, as dumb as this sounds, create it in the same location as .htaccess, visit your site, and then go back an delete it.

Found and deleted .maintenance.
Problem solved.
Thanks for your help.
