Yes, I know it sounds weird, but that’s the truth:

This morning I had to delete several spam comments, caught by Akismet, to this page:

    http://www.optimiced.com/en/2007/01/15/yahoo-messenger-logo-reloaded/

What puzzled me immediately, is the fact that this page has the comments form closed for over a month!

    I am sure of that.

Just to be double-sure, I checked the source of the whole page with the post (and you can check for yourself!). You can’t post a comment there, there’s no form for posting comments, nothing.

And somehow, spambot/spambots succeeded to post a comment to this page! (lucklily, caught by Akismet and held for moderation)

    How this can happen?

What protection should one use not to receive comments even from posts with locked comments?

    I am terribly puzzled…

    Any help’d be appreciated! 🙂

Spambots don’t usually post “comments”. They usually post “trackbacks”, which are different. You can enable/disable them on a per-post basis, just like you can comments. On the post page, where you can turn on/off comments, you can also turn on/off “pings”.

Disabling comments is not a valid solution to spam. Use spam blockers, like Bad Behavior and Akismet.

    Thanks!

I forgot about Trackbacks and Pingbacks (never quite grasped the difference between them;-)… thx a lot! 🙂

So these are spam trackbacks/pingbacks:))) hehe, OK:)

(About Akismet, I use it, but I do not like to manually check comments… ‘Guess will have t osearch for something better;-)

Bad Behavior stops a heck of a lot of spam from ever making it to your blog in the first place. Good plugin to have.
