  • I have no users and comments are set to register users only, yet I keep finding new comments. How can I stop this?

    Thanks!

  • Hi rmurdo,

On each of your pages and posts, be sure to uncheck “Allow Comments”

I’m guessing most of these comments are spam? You can try useing Automattic’s Akismet plugin to curb them

If you want to disable comments entirely you can also use different plugins as well

    Hey thanks for the reply!

Do the pages override the setup ‘Require user to be logged in to comment’ option? In the mean time I’ll take a look at your other 2 suggestions.

    Thanks!

I do not see the allow comments check box on posts or pages. I am on Version 3.9.2.

Yes, it would remove the ability for anyone to comment entirely. Though, it seems as your problem is SPAM which Akismet should solve. Have you tried it out yet?

I can’t use Akismet. I intend the site to be commercial but on a budget. Its not free for other then personal use.

I would seriously consider paying for Akismet then if the cooments are a nusance and then installing http://wordpress.org/plugins/cookies-for-comments/

There are also other plugins that you can use and can search for more here

I removed the add comment php file and still getting spam. I think they are injecting directly.
