• Hi,

I began running 3.0.5 and only have a few posts & pages. I went with the original permalink structure and after a lot of reading on the subject I want to change it.

The main reason I want to change the structure is because stats show that all hits are being done to homepage and I hate that.

Unfortunatly, after reading a lot, I was not able to find out if 3.x automatically deal with redirection (create 301 on old link to avoid 404). I’ve seen many plugins about migration and such but all were created to deal with older versions while I’ve read only once that 3.x take care of it. Before giving it a go, I’d like to make sure all will be fine.

    Thanks

I was about to say ‘WordPress doesn’t fix your redirects’ but it depends…

If your permalinks are domain.com/?p=123 then no matter WHAT those will always correctly redirect to whatever else you come up with.

What are you starting with (i.e. what do they look like NOW) and where are you going (i.e. what do you WANT them to look like)? A pretty simple redirect in .htaccess may be able to take care of it all.

    Half-Elf.. hehe nice!

Currently domain.com/?p=123 but plan to /%year%-%monthnum%/%postname%

What you are saying is that whatever the structure you decide on, domain.com/?p=123 will always work anyway like if WP has it’s own shortening URL service always running. Right?

Like I said, I want to get rid of hits to domain.com/?p=123 because stats show all hits are being done to domain.com of course.

    Yes 🙂

Watch, go to http://ipstenu.org/?p=1363 and it will magically redirect you 😀
