Hostway Installation Tips

This is what I did to install WordPress on my Hostway hosted site. You actually need Hostway support to get this done. They are happy to help if you ask.

First you need to log into SiteControl. Under Website Tools… Manage Features.. Add PHP and a MySQL Database.

When you create your database it will give you the following information:

Database Name: what-ever-you-named-it

Database User Name: what-ever-you-named-it

Database Server Name: what-ever-they-gave-you

Database Server Alias: mysql-xxxxx.xxxxx.com

You will use the top three lines plus whatever password you chose at the beginning of the installation process to plug into your wp-config-sample.php file.

Next send Hostway support an email or do a trouble ticket and tell them:

“I need GD Extensions for PHP installed to view image files on my WordPress site.

Please add support for GD image manipulation library by adding the following line of code in the php.ini file of my domain: xtension=gd.so”

This will allow Plug-Ins like WPPA Photo Gallery to work properly by creating thumbnails.

I hope this helps! I know I needed it… it took me three days to figure this out.
