• Hi,
I’m new to wp.org, so that might be the problem in itself, but I’m having a very hard time getting all set up. I have a new domain and purchased the mid-level (deluxe) hosting package. I installed wp 2.9 from the godaddy hosting site. The first day it worked well and I dabbled with themes etc without transferring any of the content from my wp.com blog. I then started to have problems with the site and admin page loading. I contacted their tech support and was told everything was fine. I thought maybe i needed to get the 2.9.1 upgrade to solve the issues and then i couldnt get the pages to load at all. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled 4 times with getting installation errors. Another tech support call got me a clean install and now the site takes forever to load again and I usually just get the basic page, not even the default theme.

Is this a godaddy issue? Someone told me they have problems running WP. I’m considering trying to get a refund for the hosting and switching. What host sites do you guys use with success?

    Thanks!

  • I’ve used godaddy for years, with about 6 WP installs, with no problems.

Are you using windows or linux hosting?

If you are using windows, I’d switch over to linux…it works far better from what I hear

I am using windows. I picked that because i thought linux would be beyond me…I’m not so tech saavy and thought windows would be easier.

the operating system won’t affect you at all, its the OS the server uses, and you won’t be interfacing with it at all…. you don’t actually deal with that. The files you work with will pretty much be exactly the same…. html, php, css, images, etc

You can switch to linux for free, I’d recommend doing that as linux is much better, works waaaay better with wordpress, and has more software options in general

That shows you how much i know. Thanks for the advice!

A few years back when I signed up with godaddy, I did the exact same thing, for the exact same reason!

If you switch to a Linux hosting plan, Go Daddy provides instructions here: http://help.godaddy.com/article/1285

The other option is to give our support team a ring and they can help you with the switch – http://bit.ly/77edfQ
