I have downloaded MySql, PHP, and WordPress. everything seems to be running except WordPress. It will not install. Mostly I get the install.php file to open in edit mode instead of running.
I am running Windows 2003 SP1 and IIS.

Looks like PHP wasn't setup properly in IIS.

    Check this out:

If you don't have to run IIS, might want to try this instead

My PHP test works. It is step 5 in the codex that doesn't. That is to run wp-admin/install.php in the brouser. It just manages to open the file or say that the webpage can't be found depending on wheather I put http:// in front of the path or not. I am learning a lot about WordPress, mostly what not to do.

    Do other PHP pages work?
Looks like php-files are handled wrong.

So far I have deleted everything except MySQL and started over. I am using WPI but without much success. It says when you finish it should bring up a web page (to start with I assume) but that fails.
I have also installed IIS express so that the install PHP would run but that doesn't seem to help anything either. I need a framework to build on so that I can jump each hurdle in line and not take off across the field.

I have to backup. I could not get the services to start. They keep saying they can't find the path. I uninstalled everything again and tried WAMPP and got the same result. I like the XAMPP control panel layout but it won't start the Apache or MySQL services.

    Have you tried using EasyPHP?

I don't know how it happened but I got XAMPP to install and Apache and my Sql are running. The test worked, I was able to open the webpage. I am now installing WordPress with XAMPP. Yea!!
