Horizontal Nav bar navigation (4 posts)

I'm trying to create a horizontal navigation bar. Some of the links may be:

    Home | photos | archives

When I'm on the page itself, I don't want to be able to click on the actual link, so if I'm in Home, then Home won't actaully be a link. However, if I go into the post itself, I want home to be a link back to the main page. How can i get this to work? Rgith now, if I go into a post, home stays a dead link.

This is the code I have for my home link: is there anything I need to change for it to recognize that it's inside a post and needs to refer back to home again?
    <li><a href="/" id="current" title="You are here!">Home</a></li>

    Also check

esp. if your horizontal menu is going to contain pages.
