horizontal

I am working on a wordpress horizontal scrolling template for my portfolio. Essentially I have a container div and post class divs that spawn with a custom version of the loop. I am wanting to make the container expand width to the amount of posts without having to specify an exact width while keeping them in a straight horizontal line. Is this possible using css? I have looked all over and need help. Thanks
