• Hey all, my homepage is not showing up correctly. There are two links, “gym wordpress themes” and “anti-virus pc” which are showing up in the artmenu, but should be at the very bottom of the page, at the footer.

Here is my website: http://www.tronmusic.com/wordpress/ How do I change the position of these or get rid of them altogether? Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

Was that the website that you got the theme from? If you downloaded a free theme, then the maker of the theme generally wants their name/website in the footer so they get credit for the theme they created. They are in the footer so they don’t take away from your general site, but more are there as a reference.

Yes, correct. I don’t mind having it there. However, It’s not showing up in the footer right now, it’s up by the artmenu, screwing up the look of my page.

Really? I’ve tried clearing my browser cache and everything, and the left sidebar is up in the top middle of the page, while the body content is down the left side. Is it not showing up this way on your browser?

I can see them. They are items on your main menu. That is to say that your main menu has too many items to fit on one line and these are spilling down onto the next one.

Are you using the default main menu or have you defined a custome one?

Hey peredur. Yes, I know what you’re saying. However, they are not “pages.” I am using the default menu. Should I define a custom one?

This thing has somehow inserted itself onto my menu. Don’t know how.

The default menu will just try to guess what you want. It’s usually wrong in my experience.

    To define a custom menu:

    • Go to Dashboard –> Appearance –> Menus
    • In the main panel, click on the tab with the ‘+’ sign if you have to (can’t remember if this is necessary for a first custom menu or not)
    • Under the tabs, enter a menu name
    • Select the Pages and/or categories you want to see on your main menu bar, and click the appropriate ‘Add to Menu’ button. I do them one-at-a-time, but I think you can do multiples
    • The items appear on the menu in the main panel. You can drag them about to get them in the positions you want them; and you can open each item up to set a different label if you want to and so on
    • You can also add arbitrary URLs, for external links, for example, by using the boxes in the ‘Custom Links’ sub-panel
    • Save the menu
    • In the ‘Theme Locations’ sub panel at top left, open the dropdown and set your menu as the Primary Navigation menu
    • Save the menu

Your menu will now have just the items you want.

    Hopefully!

Yes, I did that. I think it’s something in the .php files. Any ideas?

If you’re using a custom menu you will only see on it the things you put there. Are you sure you carried out the step where you set the custom menu as your primary navigation menu?

What items have you put on your custom menu?

    Cheers

Yeah, the stuff is still there. Check it out:

Hmmm. I just noticed that these unwanted items are actually <li> elements directly inside div.nav. The html validator lists this as an error which, of course, it is.

So the question is, what’s putting it there?

Which theme, exactly, are you using?

With luck div.nav will be in header.php and we can take a looksee what’s going on.

    Cheers
