HomePage: insert media also creating also creates portfolio slideshow

I would like to add an image on the home page under an existing slider. When I do this, the image is added correctly, however it is also added to a portfolio slideshow as the only image. The result is that it now appears 2 times on the home page. I can’t delete the portfolio slideshow without also deleting the inline image. Any advice? thanks!
