Home Page Showing Wrong on IE8 (5 posts)

When I view my home page, it shows the same way on all different browsers... except Internet Explorer 8 - but just on certain computers (which is the part that confuses me!). I live somewhere with a computer lab - so I'm able to check my website on numerous computers and browsers. It shows up the same everywhere (including some computers with IE 8), except for ONE computer which has the home page alignment wrong. On that computer, this is what the home page looks like:

(The logo - which has a square white background - merges into the colored circles in the background because everything isn't centered correctly.)

This is especially confusing, because if you click on any one article (and are re-routed to the screen showing just that article) everything re-aligns and looks perfect!

Another problem is that on the home page on ALL computers using IE8, the 'share buttons' (located at the bottom of each post) do not show?! And yet, if you click on any one article and go to that page, the share buttons show just fine.

And everything shows perfect and works as it should on Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.

Any idea why any of this is happening?

    My site is: http://www.prayersandapples.com

To start with, you have code above the DOCTYPE which freaks out IE. You also have quite a few mark-up errors that can cause layout problems:

Particularly the ones about elements in the wrong places or open, missing, extra, or unclosed tags - start with those.

Also, IE8 is not 'compliant'...check your sites on IE9 or IE10...(or Chrome or Firefox's latest releases) IE8 is on it's way out - IE8 (or IE7 or IE6) does not support things such as rounded corners, etc....etc....etc...design to the latest standards is your best bet (imho)

Yes, totally agree with that -- IE is unsupported in many themes and not for much longer in other places -- i.e. Google is dropping it soon.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply - I really don't know what I'm doing, I don't even know what markup errors are or what DOCTYPE is :/ I read the validating a website article you posted, but I'm not sure I would know enough to use it... From what you guys are saying though, it seems like IE8 won't be an issue for too much longer, so since everything shows up ok on the other browsers I guess I'll just let it be for now. Thanks again!
