[resolved] home page returns 404 Not Found error (5 posts)

    http://www.cvcbike.org runs WordPress 2.7.1

Sometime yesterday requests for the home page started returning a 404 not found error.

    This is strange since:

    - there had been no changes to either the homepage content or to the underlying CSS and php files

    - the Apache access and error logs show only 200 OK return codes, no 404s

    - the server returns all other pages on the site with no problem.

I was using a custom theme based on Mimbo but have switched for now to WP Classic because it at least displays a static page. (I've set that under Settings/Reading; doing so with my custom theme is no help.) But even with the classic theme, note the "Page not found" error in the title bar.

Another oddity is when switching between themes, the preview of my custom theme shows all the home page content correctly. But requests for the homepage still return 404 errors.

Thanks in advance for any clues on debugging this.

Was this a static home page or a posts page?

This was on a posts page, but I've since tried with both static and posts and see the same behavior both ways.

Have you tried deactivating all plugins in case one of them is causing a problem? What about permalinks? Switch to the defaults if you're using any custom permalinks settings.

Deactivating all plugins was a good suggestion, thanks.

After doing so and then re-activating them one at a time, it appears the problem is associated with the "Redirection" plugin. With all other plugins except that one activated, the homepage loads fine.

Not sure what changed, since I'd been running redirection for around a week before this problem occurred. I'll follow up with the Redirection author(s) to see about debugging and fixing this.

    Thanks again!
