    Hi,

I am trying to figure out the best way to implement a homepage when using wordpress as a CMS. I've made a home.php page, but I need to have multiple editable regions for the users to change through the wordpress admin. I've looked at doing a template for the homepage and widgets, but am not sure the best way to go about this. Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

There are a number of ways to do this. Often used is assigning each region its own post category and using one custom loop in each region that pulls in the most recent post in that category. Nowadays you can do something similar with a custom post type and a custom taxonomy if you don't want to use post categories on the home page.

Suggestion is find a free WP theme whose home page is laid out similar to what you want, download it, and look at its homepage code. Create your own version of the code for your theme.

I would suggest using either meta boxes http://www.farinspace.com/how-to-create-custom-wordpress-meta-box/ or theme options http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress/how-to-create-a-better-wordpress-options-panel/

This would work only if the content is static. If the content is dynamic (blog, feed etc) then category of posts or custom post types would work better.
