I am celebrating my seamless upgrade to 2.1.3 today (from 2.0.5) but I have run into one little snag. It’s probably minor, I just don’t know how to fix it.

I used to use the static home page plugin, so that my page with the slug “home” became the front page of the blog….now 2.1.3 has the option built it. That seems just fine, except for one tiny thing….since the upgrade, all the modifications I have made to the page.php template are not affecting the home page at all. It just displays the basic content that I wrote into the page, but not the mods to the template.

Does 2.1.3 use a different default template for “home” perhaps?

I finally have my answer, but I am shocked that this has not been addressed anywhere really obvious (at least not that I have seen…someone point me at it if I missed it!).

It seems that the is_home function in 2.1 is only going to work on your blog home page, not the “Page” you choose to show as the home page in Options >> Reading.

I found a nifty little plugin here, which creates the function “is_frontpage”.

He also explains the whole problem better than I did, so I recommend reading it.

I am just really surprised that in implementing the feature of a static home page as an integrated part of WP, the developers would leave out or drastically alter the usage of the is_home function….after all, isn’t it’s widespread use the main reason this feature was included in WP on this round? Again, maybe there is an explanation somewhere that I have missed. If someone would kindly point me in that direction, I will get educated and quit griping. 🙂
