Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

i think it has to do with the database… i installed a new blog and imported the database and the new blog worked until i imported it and now the new one does the same thing
any ideas on this??
Was the old sql from a 3.0 database?
I started having this problem after re-installing plugins.
I feel so helpless. I can get around a bit, but I am no webmaster. My guy reset everything for me and I was re-installing one at a time, then boom… same thing.
When I try re installing plugins I get this:
Could not create directory. /mnt/stor1-wc2-dfw1/XXXXXX/XXXXXX/www.mysite.com/web/content/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/
I tried browsing the theme to reset plug ins folder, but I am not finding it.
Waiting on webguy to respond, but would rather know how to solve this myself.

I’m getting the blank blog too. I had the directory error as well and did the fix which was in the forums. I still have the same error. I hope you find a fix for the blank page esmi. I think I have had enough of this new version and it’s bugs and glitches. I am going back to the last stable WP.

Hi esmi – the msql database is 5.0 – i have no way to tell the wordpress version as I cant see anything when I login as admin, is there another way to tell what version the old blog is?
Try looking in the wp-options table for db_version. That number should indicate the original version of the WP install that the sql came from. If you’ve used, for example, a 2.9 sql in a 3.0 install, it could cause problems.

when i open myphpadmin and click on wp-options table there is no row for db_version
however this was installed on this server/hosting account that has 5.0 sql and is a fairly new hosting account.
let me ask you this – is there a way to get all my data from the blog to a new one, if i just start over? As I mentioned before the new wordpress installs fine but when i import the sql files that i export from the one not working it makes the new one not work. is there maybe another option besides exporting and importing that might work to get the info transferred for a new install?

It’s there.
option_name: db_version
option_value: 15260 (for WP3.0)
You need to look for this in your old sql file and find out what the option_value is where option_name = db_version. That will tell us what version of WP this sql came from. Once you know your original WP version, I’d suggest installing that (older) version first and importing the sql into the new database. Then upgrading the install.
The closest I’ve been able to find is version 2.0.10 when the db version was 3441:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Version_2.0.10
So you have an sql dump from a very old version of WordPress and I’d guess that trying to import an 2.0.x dump into a 3.0 database is what’s causing your problems. You could try installing version 2.0.10 and importing your data and see if that works OK. If it does, you could then start upgrading using the instructions on this page.
