Home Page (index) modification (5 posts)

    Hi,

I have three categories on my site currently (blog, music, audiobook) -- but when someone goes to the home page: http://www.damonjustisntfunny.com I only want it to display the blog postings ... I think it is a little confusing for the non-blog savvy person to see all the music and audiobook podcast posts on the main page.

Is there an easy way to either establish a template file for the "home" page or modifify the index.php's loop only show cat 1 ?

I know I have seen this posted but can't find it anywhere -- thanks!

One possibility you have is to redirect from your front page to the page of the particular category. The other possibility is to edit the index.php file inserting a condition involving a match to category number. That, of course is slightly more complex, but leaves you with an elegant URL.

I would rather the second option, I believe, as that it is prettier and prettier is, usually, better.

I have been using the in_category(x) conditional to do some other things, but I wasn't sure the best way to implement it into the loop. So far I have been using it only for text at the very top; I am not sure what kind of things I should change in the loop (or have different loops per condition).

    Thanks,
    damon

I'd go by creating a home.php template and using a customized Loop. In this way it will not affect other situations where index.php is used.

Thanks - that's the kind of advice I needed.
