Home page doesn't show in "Pages" dashboard

I just started a redesign of my site and when I went to edit my homepage I discovered that it was no where to be found in the “Pages” section of the dashboard, or anywhere else for that matter. does anyone have a clue as to why this is and how I can get it back?
