Thanks very much. You’re correct that is the codex paragraph to which I’m referring. It seems to share NOTHING in common with my WP options. I have 3 published pages: blog, home, and “sample page”. Still the option does not appear. There is no option anywhere for where my homepage appears. I know everyone knows how to do this but after 2 days of searching I have not found it.
Why does everybody else but me know that “of course one must do Assembly level coding of the the php database” to get options to show but that’s just “so obvious” that it’s documented nowhere?
Never mind it was under
Setting> Reading> Front Page
guess no one really knew.

Yep, like the documentation says, “Go to Administration > Settings > Reading panel. Set Front page displays to a static page.” 😉
