Home and Static Pages

Hi, my website is at http://www.margotteschauthor.com. I’m using a Coraline-child theme. I have the theme set to have blog post index as the front page, i.e. NOT a static page. However, I intend to have numerous other pages (menu options). How does a user navigate back to the index page? I’ve set up a “home” page as a place holder but I don’t know how to get this to refer to the blog post index when a user selects it. I tried copying index.php to home.php but this didn’t work.
Want I want to achieve is the blog post index (front page) to be my home page and allow users to navigate to and from it as they wish.
