On my blog, http://www.amptoons.com/blog, whenever anyone tries to post a comment, they get a blank white screen after hitting the “post comment” button.

This first started happening sometime last night, I think. My first reflex was to turn off the most recently installed plugin (the subscribe comments plugin, which I installed several days ago, seemingly without any problem), but when I went to my plugins admin screen that was a blank white screen too!

I tried turning off the subscribe comments plugin via FTP (by changing the filename in the plugins directory), but that didn’t help. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it.

  • BTW, changing a plugins filename won’t deactivate it. You need to delete it or move it entirely out of the wp-content/plugins path.

If that doesn’t do it, I suggest you notify your host. Ask about changes/problems to the server.

I’ve tried contacting my host, so far no response.

I also tried deleting all new, activated plugins, but no help there.

Also, a new symptom: The background image for the posts, located at http://www.amptoons.com/blog/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickbg.jpg , is not showing up on individual post pages in Firefox – although it is showing up on the main page, and in IE. (I’ve had several people report this to me). Clearing the catche doesn’t solve the problem.

Looking at the source for that page; At the bottom I found this:

Fatal error: Unknown function: show_manual_subscription_form() in /home/wedouglas/amptoons.com/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/default/comments.php on line 104

Doesn’t look like the page is able to complete (no footer, etc.). Need to remove that call or do a if function_exists().

Another look at your ‘front’ page (index.php) shows 170 errors:

I got rid of the call to “show_manual_subscription_form” (that was a call to one of the plug-ins I deleted after this problem began occurring).

And I looked through those front page errors and was able to get rid of over 100 of them. None of the errors that remain (or that I got rid of, for that matter) are anything new or could be causing this problem, as far as I can tell.

I’ve heard back from the host; they say there haven’t been any changes to the server.

Going to take this to email for a ‘moment’.

A note on the resolution to above: Upgrading from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4 solved the comment issue. This was done prior to any extensive troubleshooting so an exact cause was undetermined.
