high bandwidth use (2 posts)

    Hi folks,
I run a popular hip-hop site, and all is well, though I'm experiencing some
    really strange bandwidth usage.

Virtually all of the "hits" showing in my web sites log files are the IP of
my web site (the home page "/").

Now, my server is registering this a bandwidth as well, so for example, in a
given month I might have 500,000 hits, but 400,000 of of the hits are my own
IP address (of my web server).

Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?

Thanks for any ideas you might have as to why my website's script is
registering most of my hits as being generated by my web server.

That's your blog requesting files to embed. If your blog has images and music embedded, your site needs to display them, so it "hits" these files to load them. If these files were downloaded, the hit would come from the visitor's IP.

Image or Music is downloaded = the hit comes from the visitor

Image or Music is embedded = the hit comes from your own server.

It's perfectly normal and represents legitimate bandwidth consumption.
