Hiding WordPress before site launch (4 posts)

    Hiya,

I'm new to WordPress and have installed it on my own pc, installed various plugins and got everything running as I want it.

I want to use WordPress as a cms for my main site (so the main wordpress page is the index of my site), but at the moment the index of my domain links to other busy areas of my site (a 'coming soon' page, if you like).

I don't want visitors stumbling across my WordPress installation before the site launch, but if possible, I'd like to install WordPress on my domain and get my bloggers writing some content before the launch of the site.

Is there anyway I can temporarily hide the site (i.e. have the coming soon page load for visitors) which wouldn't create problems with the installation?

I'm a bit worried about having to install WordPress on the launch night when people will be logging on - I want them to be impressed; not gawking at me fiddling with an installation! :)

Any help really really appreciated. :)

You may want to consider using "htpasswd" as a means to protect your website from the general public. Have a look at this tutorial.
