   I'd love to be able to have some of our contributors write on things that I don't want to waste index-page space with, but would make for good conversation on side-pages. I'm thinking categories are a good way to do this, since interested people can just click on the category they're interested in. But how do I make it so posts of a certain category don't show up on the main page?

   The Codex article, The Loop has a section that speaks directly to that subject.

   Also see the template tag, query_posts().
