Hide menu and sidebar text from search engines? (1 post)

Ok, so I'm using the Mozimat Goodnews theme, and I'm having terrible search results, because when I search it gives me results that include the main navigation menu and the sidebar. So, if I search for a word that happens to be in the menu or sidebar, every page on the site will show up in the search results, as every page in the site has a sidebar and navigation menu. Also, in the 160 character snippet text for the page, the default starts with the navigation menu text.

How can I solve this problem? Is it possible to hide the menu and sidebars from the search engines? Essentially what I want is for search engines to only search within the page contents themselves.

Any help would be much appreciated.
