I'm using the P2 theme with my site and wish to have users upload photos to their posts. I believe uploading media is only possible if they have an author role, yet with the author role they are able to access the media library which allows them to manage all site-wide media, which will definitely leave my site susceptible to manipulation. Is there anyway to disable access to the media library or create a whole different way of just uploading images instead of giving users author permission. Any possible ideas on fixing this would be so greatly appreciated.

I tried to hide it through CSS, but didn't work for me.
I have found out that role scoper plugin can hide any other media than those uploaded by the author itself.
