Hide image from post but still keep it there…crazy I know

Okay I know this is kind of an odd question. I run http://tablified.com with the storebox theme. The way this theme handles images is very strange. It doesn’t actually insert or attach the pictures to the post, meaning if you export the posts the pictures wont show up. Long story short, I am also using GD Star plugin and it will only pull the first image that is attached to the post. Since no one of the pictures are actually attached to the post it doesn’t pull any images. I tried setting the image as the featured image but it still wont pull the image. The only way I can get this to work is if I attach and insert the photo into the post. The problem here is that now I have two of the same images and it it ruins the entire theme. You can see that there is the app icon just hanging out all by itself. My question is how do i essentially HIDE this picture that I inserted but still keep it alive that GD Star displays it on the main page widget? I dont even know if this is possible. Any work would be appreciated.
