I know there are many navigation, menu, and category/page organization plugins and like but is there any way either through plugins or through creative templating that you can hide a category or post's child categories until you are at that category or in one of the children on the same level?

What I am interested in is hiding categories in the sidebar.
Lets say I have these categories:
Comic
-Batman
-Superman
-Xmen
Anime
-Naruto
-Cowboy Bebop
-Trigun
Manga
-Hellsing
-Kurohime
-Fruits Basket
I am looking for some way to have it display only
Comic
Anime
Manga
unless you are inside that category and only that category is expanded.
For example if I am browsing blog posts about Trigun the sidebar would only display:
Comic
Anime
-Naruto
-Cowboy Bebop
-Trigun
Manga
I just don't want my category list to be huge and only wanted to show the related categories in my sidebar based on the category currently being viewed. Either that category's children or its parent and other categories that share the same parent.

Aha found the plugin I needed.

It is awesome more people should use it. Keeps that catlist from getting too bulky.
