Since there is not a category for being cheesed-off. I decided to post here. It used to be that setting up a WP site was simple. You install LAMP, download WP, expand it and upload it to your server, change the config file and life was good. Apparently, not any more! Over the past week, I have struggled with database connection issues and .htaccess issues and still have not been successful at geting WP installed on my own machine! Seriously, what happened? Why has this become such an ordeal to install? I should not have to edit apache files to make this happen or jump through hoops trying to get the database to connect.

I am starting over tonight with an absolutely fresh server. I am hand installing the LAMP components just so there's no confusion and nothing is missed. Just to satisfy my curiosity, has anyone else had this much trouble?
