Hemingway theme causing problems w/ admin pages (5 posts)

    Hello,
I’m running WordPress 2.0.5 w/ PHP5.0 and a modified version of the Hemingway theme. The site works well except for the following:

    1) The administrative pages are flaky and whenever I post an update, the page just goes blank (i.e., all white).

    2) If I’m not already logged in, then I can’t even get to the admin pages. For example, entering http://<site>/wp-admin just results in the page – again – going blank. Somehow, being logged in let's met get to the admin pages. Perhaps the problem has to do w/ not being able to display the log-in page which is not needed if I'm already logged in?

    3) Whenever a comment is posted (or a new article, or an edit) the page goes blank. In other words, anything involving a post causes problems.

I know my WordPress install is OK because I need only change the theme to default (or any number of other themes) and everything behaves correctly. So my question is what is about a theme that could cause these types of problems? Since the themes have no bearing on the look of the WP-admin pages I’m would think that none of the theme pages would have an influence on the behavior of the admin pages. Obviously, I’m wrong so what’s the link between the two?

    Thanks much,

    -Roland.

Ask your host to bump your php memory from 8M to 16M - usually solves the problem.

I'm my own host and php.ini is configured as:
max_execution_time = 30 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
max_input_time = 60 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data
    memory_limit = 16M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (16MB)

I'll try bumping up the memory to 32, to see if it fixes the problem. Aside from that, should/can a them have an affect on the wp-admin pages? I wouldn't think so.

    Thanks for the response,

    -Roland.

Oh. I found the problem thanks to this support topic.

I had an empty functions.php document sitting in the theme folder. Since it was empty (or at least no visible text -- I'm sure there was some non-printable chars in there) it was causing a problem. Can't say I understand why, but since I had no use for it, I blasted it away and now problems solved!

Thx for the help. You didn't give me the exact solution to the problem, but you gave me enough to go on that I was able to find the final solution.

    -Roland.
