Help with Ultra theme- page template and Homepage slides

I am setting up a site using this great simple theme by AJ Clarke but I can’t seem to figure out how to get two things working. There is a slide show option on the Homepage but I can’t seem to find anything about how to set it up.

Additionally there is a portfolio/services template for pages but I am not sure how to set it up. I have it selected as the template on the pages I want to use it on but nothing is different.

Anyone have any idea how to edit these two features?
