Help with Theme

Hello fellow wordpressers, I have a site http://www.valp.net/ running the digg 3 theme, i am wanting to use this theme for another site of mine, but i would like for it to work different. When someone clicked on one of the tabs across the top , only the subpages of that page would show up on the left colomn, does anyone have any thoughts on how i can accomplish this?
