I am attempting to install wordpress on my mac. I seem to be stuck on the last step:

Lastly, we've got to run WordPress' famous 5-minute install. Visit your local site (localhost:port or localhost:port/wordpress), and enter the following information into the database setup form:
    database name: wordpress
    database host/server: localhost
    database user: root
    database password: root

I don't know where to find my local host, or how to enter that information. Thanks for any help you can give.

I downloaded MAMP, and added wordpress as a database. I assumed I would enter the info they gave me there, but am not sure where. Am I correct in assuming that, or did I miss something.

So what do you see when you visit your local MAMP site in a browser?

    Welcome to MAMP
If you can see this page, MAMP is installed
on your Mac and everything is working!

and the a bunch of stuff about hosts and ports, but they are the right port numbers.

Have you actually copied the WordPress files to MAMP's web root folder? Rename the index.html file there to something like index-old.html if there is one.

If you've done this right, you should see the WordPress install page.

Any ideas when it comes to php on a linux server. Installed MySql successfully and extracted wordpress 3.4.2, and edited the wp-config.php as the tutorial explained... http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress ...

And when I'm supposed to load the installation http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php - nothing happens, and my domain is pointing correctly according to my provider (dns, hostmaster and everything is fine.)

    What to do?

    Best/ Tron

@Trondur: It is impolite to interrupt another poster's ongoing thread with a question of your own and it causes significant problems for the forum's volunteers. Please post your own topic.

    @mdesrochers

Download WordPress using the bright orange tab on the top right of this web page. Extract the files in the zip and copy them over to MAMP's web root folder.
