• I’m not sure exactly what version of wordpress I am using, but I am hoping someone can help me figure out how to resize my tables.

I have a column on the left side where I plan on putting a short about me, some social network buttons, and things like that, but I want it to be a little smaller, maybe 200px wide? so that my main content table will be bigger when I post my photography work.

Any help is appreciated. I am using the 2011 theme, and I do not have a child theme installed, mainly because I do not know how to do that.

    Thank you!

Also, here is the link to my blog.

  • The link does not work. What table are you talking about? Do you mean section of the page?

And BTW, if you are making changes to the code, you REALLY need to use a child theme — see the Codex for help on it. Do not ignore that or you will create many problems for yourself down the road.

I am not too familiar with coding, and don’t exactly have money to pay someone to do it. What kind of problems am would I run in to?

I am talking about the sidebar on the page 🙂

The problems you WILL run into if you change the core code is that when WP is updated, you will lose all the changes. Also, it’s crucial that you have an unadulterated version of the default WP theme available to troubleshoot various problems that can arise.

You do not need to know a lot about coding to create a child theme — MANY people do it. You just need to be able to read and follow directions in the page I linked to, and ask questions here if needed after you’ve gotten started.

If you don’t want to do that much work, perhaps you should consider using WordPress.COM — which does much of the backend work for you. You can still use your domain name — it’s a paid upgrade option.

Looking at your site, did you already change things in the width of the sidebar — it’s only 169.2px wide right now?

I think I already have coding on my blog though, because I see things in the appearance editor tab. Does that matter when trying to use a child press theme? Excuse me, I am pretty new to wordpress.

I had someone help me out a little bit, but when I mentioned asking him to install the child theme he didn’t sound so sure. Maybe I will try asking him again.

I wasn’t sure how big the sidebar was to begin with, I just know I would like to be smaller. The image that is on the sidebar now is 200px wide, but I just don’t like all of the padding that is around the image, if that makes sense.

What is the difference between what I am using now and wordpress.com?
