Help with Restore (No DB Backup) (6 posts)

I have received from a client the "backup" files which look like they were "backed-up" using dreamweaver. There is no database backup.

    Couple of Questions/Possibilities:
    1. Is there a chance the database was backed-up in the files? What would the database file looks like? What file type?
2.From what I see I do have the .asp page files. Is there a way I could import these into the database?
    3. Worst case scenario? I'd look at the .asp files and get the text and make "new" pages?

Any and All help to get this site back up and running would be great!
Surely someone has had this same experience?

    Hi NTxNerd,

Are you sure the site was built with WordPress? WordPress uses PHP files to connect to MySQL databases. It sounds like the backup you received is from a completely different type of website.

The file structure should be something like this:

    wp-admin (folder)
    wp-content (folder)
    wp-includes (folder)
    index.php (file)

    many wp-***.php files

SQL database should have the .sql extension.

    Hope this helps!

I apologize for the confusion. Yes it is wordpress (these must be old asp pages).. so.. my next question.. IF they just gave me files from an FTP backup.. Did they backup the pages in a way that I can restore them?

No, unless the database was exported to a .SQL file and copied as part of the FTP backup.

    Hi NTxNerd,

Just to clarify, database contains posts and contents. The wp-content folder would have images and themes. Without the database you can restore the look of the site but not the real content of the site.

    Good luck with your restore.

    Hi NTxNerd,

Were you able to get a good backup from your client? Did you have any additional questions about restoring a backup?

    Thanks!
