    Hi
I have put together a new basic WP theme at
    http://www.richard-dickinson.com (my blog)
This is very basic as my WPtheme knowledge is very basic!

    For starters:
How to I get the theme to show ‘Editor’ in Theme section in admin page?
I would like to edit the code from my admin page.
How to I get the sidebar to be at the side?!

I am most grateful for help and advice with this and look forward to helpful replies, many thanks

    Hi
Strange thing here: I use Xampp on my Vista computer to develop with and in my Xampp localhost WordPressMU install I can access the theme editor in my new theme but I do not have a theme editor option in my live hostgator server install of my new theme!
    I wonder why?

Anyway now I will look at that sidebar code. I am still keen for advice on how to develop and edit my new theme and would appreciate helpful feedback/comments. Many thanks

    Hi
Can someone please help me to position the sidebar properly?
    Here is the style.css:

[CSS moderated as per the Forum Rules.

This sidebar should sit in the middle of the right column but so far I cannot move it from it’s position bottom right of the page!
I cannot seem to fix this yet so I would appreciate some help (see http://www.richard-dickinson.com)

    Looking forward to helpful replies

You could start by using a proper, full, DOCTYPE in header.php (I’d recommend XHTML Transitional – not HTML 4) and getting rid of the invalid characters in your HTML comments. That way it would be possible to at least run the pages through the validator.

I do not understand-I ran my index.htm file through the validator & used Tidy to fix the errors. This gives :

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]

The doc type is still transitional and now the footer doesn’t display properly using the original style.css (code shown in previous post).

    Hi again
I have edited my wordpress theme some more now and it is getting a bit better. Hopefully it has passed W3C html validation.

Please look at it at http://www.richard-dickinson.com

I would like the footer to span the entire page width. How do I do that?

I am most grateful for helpful comment on how I can edit this theme/on WordPress theme editing so I can make this theme to a good WordPress theme standard. Please understand I am new to making WP themes and am just learning about theme development and want to develop my learning and practice.

I am most grateful for helpful replies, many thanks

    Hi
I continue to edit my theme and I would appreciate some help and advice on getting it right.
    Please see http://www.richard-dickinson.com

I want the footer to span the midcol box and sidebar box (like the header does) but cannot get it to do so yet.

Also the blog looks different in IE browser and Firefox.

I am most grateful for some helpful advice and look forward to some reply, many thanks
