Help with IE please? (6 posts)

I have a display issue with the front page of my site in IE only, which is driving me nuts ... I just can't find the problem. It's not with the additional header coding, which is conditional and only appears on the front page; that was the most likely culprit but when I commented it out, I still got the same result. I'm using the K2 three-column theme, and in IE the second and third columns are dumped under the first one, instead of at the side. Everything works fine in Firefox and Opera, it's just IE that doesn't.

I'm beat on this one and may have to close the site if the bug can't be found, but whatever it is, it's too smart for me to find. Can anyone spot it for me please? Boundless gratitude if so!

    Thanks :)

This has come up, numerous of times already.. you should be able to find an answer through one of these threads here:
    http://wordpress.org/tags/k2

It's all for the K2 theme, and there is sidebar related posts there, as well as the 2/3 column versions. I hope you can find your answer in one of those.. =)

Well I didn't find it, but thanks anyway. The problem is caused by only certain entries, and I just cannot see how they differ from the others. But it seems it's an IE6 issue only, IE7 is unaffected as are all other browsers, so I guess I'll live with it.

Oh ok..well, it could be anything really. Hidden lengthy URLs (example, in articles).. unclosed <div> tags within posts, customized sidebar code.. which isn't adjusted properly.. paddings/margins on things...needed lowered or adjusted, extra big images...sometimes pushes the sidebar down.

Other scripts of sorts within the theme files, that might push it down too.. I went to your page there, but was taking far too looong to load for me sigh. I'm on crap dialup connection.. =(

Hopefully someone comes along with a faster/better connection, that could take a gander at your page source and such.. I wish ya good luck though, as I can't do much with my connection sigh. =(

Cheers, I do appreciate you looking and yes, the page is not going to load well on a slow connection, not your fault.

I found the problem was with two blog entries currently on the front page; both of them contain nothing at all beyond images and text and don't appear any different from any other basic entry. But if viewed on their own pages in IE6, they do this pushing of the sidebars to the bottom in just the same way as they do on the front page.

My first thought was also an unclosed DIV but then, that would appear in all the postings, so why just these? I don't have the skills in reading PHP to see why. I didn't insert any code of my own in the culprit entries though.

I did see a posting here from someone who had the exact same issue some months back, and they did have a DIV tag issue, so if that was their problem I guess it might be mine, too; they didn't give detailed feedback though, and I don't think I have the skill to find it, unfortunately, not being that much of a geek myself ;-)

    217 errors:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thebackyardvoyeur.com%2F

Including missing end tags, undefined lists, deprecated tags, and at least one unbalanced/bad div. Might want to take a poke at those...
