[resolved] Help with Custom "Sidebar" on Theme (5 posts)

    Hi folks!

    I am using the Probama theme for a candidate website.
    Theme here: http://www.category4.com/2008/03/11/probama-theme-for-wordpress-released/

    The custom column on the right side is created with a separate "sidebar.php" file within the theme. I got rid of the "Latest from BarackObama.com" box above the "Latest Video/Latest Images" with the Theme Editor in my admin dashboard.

    With everything default, if you go into Design -> Widgets and add anything into the Sidebar1 via normal Widget set up, the custom "sidebar" disappears. I asked the theme creator how to prevent this and he gave me the following response:

    >><<You need to move the final endif function right below the dynamic_sidebar function, ie:

    <?php /* Widgetized sidebar, if you have the plugin installed. */
    if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    So it doesn't wrap the whole sidebar.<<>>

    I made that change and the a Text widget did work and didn't make the custom sidebar disappear BUT the widget appeared ABOVE the custom sidebar and was transparent.

    What I am asking:
    1) Will someone please help me make it so I can use widgets as normal but have them show up BELOW the custom sidebar.

    2) I REALLY would like the widget areas to have the same darker blue background/border as the custom sidebar area and be centered.

    PUH-LEEZ make my day!

    MUCH love and respect to the WHOLE WordPress community!

    if you go into Design -> Widgets and add anything into the Sidebar1 via normal Widget set up, the custom "sidebar" disappears.

    That's how it works.
    If you activate even one single widget - everything that is handcoded in the sidebar (between the dynamic sidebar function and endif) disappears.

    You can put your code before or after the dynamic section.

    Styling is done via the stylesheet.

    Yes I understand that's "How it works". I'd like to tweek it to work differently if possible. The fix the theme creator gave me did work and the widget showed up along with the custom sidebar but again, it was ABOVE the custom bar and I'd like them to show up below.

    Also, I have basically zero CSS chops and need help with what exactly to code to make the widget backgrounds match the custom sidebar.

    You need some better reading skills:

    You can put your code before or after the dynamic section.

    With zero CSS skills it will not work...

    I'm trying to have the widgets outside of the custom sidebar but just have them match it. Do I code inside the sidebar.php to control the widgets?
