    Note: I’m a newbie.

I am trying to create a child theme for twenty ten and have followed all the steps outlined on this site (http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)

However, when I preview my child theme, it doesn’t have the same formatting as the original theme. (ex: Header image isn’t the same, header with links is displaying as a list.).

I have a feeling I’m not following this line of instructions correctly:
Template. (required) directory name of parent theme, case-sensitive.

How do I determine the directory name of my parent theme?

    Thanks!

  • The directory name of your parent theme is about the easiest thing to find out. In /wp-content/themes/ there’s folders. One of these folders is your parent theme, so you use the folder name. As an example, the folder that the TwentyEleven theme is in is ‘twentyeleven’ so that’s what you need to use.

Thank you – it worked this time, but didn’t carry over the header image and some of the other formatting. Any suggestions?

Never mind. I figured out that I have to upload it again.
    Thank you for your time!
