• I just upgraded to the latest version of WordPress and now I am not seeing an option that was there before. Specifically, when in the Visual part of a post editor, I used to see an option under the text color menu to choose more colors and then enter my own hex code. Once I entered it the first time, I could then highlight more text and click on the text color button again and it would adopt that same color.

Now I have tried on both Safari and Firefox and I don’t see the option to add a custom color anymore. When I click the text color menu drop down, I see preset choices, but no option to set my own custom text color.

I know I can hand code it, or I can give it a standard color and then go back in on the text end and change to the color I want. But I often have posts with 15-20 pieces of colored text and this is very time consuming to hand code each one.

So I guess my question is:
    1) Is this option still here and i am just missing it?
    2) If not, is there an easier way than hand entering the color code each time I want something other than the preset menu options.

    Thanks so much!

Does this happen with all plugins deactivated? A default theme?

The option is there, generally between ‘Paste as text’ and ‘Justify’ visual buttons. 🙂

I have not tried deactivating the plug ins or changing the theme, but it appears to have disappeared right after I upgraded from the previous version of Word Press.

I still see the option to change colors, I am just not getting the option to add my own custom color. Unfortunately I can’t seem to add a screenshot here, but basically I see the Text Color button and when I click the drop down arrow, I see the 40 default color choices. But there is nowhere to click to then choose more options and enter my hex code. It is just a box with the 40 swatches and no other options. Previously I could add my custom color using both Safari and Firefox.

Like I said, it has been working fine and I had no problem until the upgrade. Nothing else has changed since then.

    Thanks!

Sounds like it may be plugin related then. I know that the editor got a pretty big overhaul on 3.9 from previous versions. Unfortunately I don’t use the visual editor much so I can’t recommend a good plugin for that. 🙁

Meaning you think a plug in is causing it to disappear? Or that I need a plug in to remedy the fact that it is not present in 3.9? B/c like I said, the only change has been the upgrade to 3.9.

You may need a plugin to remedy it. Just did a quick search: color picker looks like a pretty good one you may like. 🙂
