HELP! Server 500 errors after messing with virtual directories! cant access site (4 posts)

    I changed the virtual directory for permalinks to something like,

    /archives/%post_name/ ( something of that manner)

    and now I cant access my site. It jumps to the server's error500 page.

    I tried,

    THESITE.com
    THESITE.com/wp-admin/

    No luck. Jumps to server's 500 error page. (Its under construction and id rather keep the actual address a secret)

    Delete the .htaccess and all will be well :)

    worked like a charm. May i inquire as to why this happened? How come my custom permalink didnt work..?

    My knowledge of permalinks you could write on the back of a postage stamp with a very large blunt wax crayon. Clueless :)

    I do know that a 500 = shoot the .htaccess

    If you post your permalink structire someone may know but it is a subject that the majority of us here don't fully 'get'. A good forum search may turn something up, and if you use Firefox, I've a nippy forum search plugin here:
