• Hello, this is my issue that is making my crazy. I have purchased many themes and built many websites through wordpress and now suddenly am having a reoccurring issue. My problem is this: No matter what theme I use, I have tried several and even ones from the past that have worked fine, setting the static page for the “front page” or the homepage to HOME is not an option! No matter the theme, it usually is always preset to have the homepage setup based on the theme you purchased. This used to be the case for me but now suddenly is not. Again, I have tried multiple themes and I am fairly good with wordpress. Something is messed up.

Home.php is showing up in the editor, but again, it isn’t an option to choose when selecting my front page static page no matter what theme. I run an internet marketing firm and am so behind on sites, PLEASE HELP!

  • home.php is a default for front home page. If you don’t want any static front home page, just leave the setting alone as default, and WP will use home.php automatically.

In case of wanting a static front page, and also a blog home (list of posts) page. First, make sure that you have created those 2 pages for each, and then they will be available to select in the settings. The option to select is not the name of template (home.php) but the page name.

If a theme doesn’t have home.php, the default will be index.php.

I shouldn’t be having to create a page that is my home, with most themes that comes included with the theme and you edit accordingly. There is a home.php on all these themes I am trying, but it is automatically grabbing the index.php instead of the home.php as a default!

please post the name and download link of the theme(s) you have the problems with.

does that also happen with the default theme Twenty Thirteen and all plugins deactivated?
