I tried to take out the comments at function.php and I get this error
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENDIF in /home/content/42/7536842/html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/functions.php on line 506

now i can't get back to my admin page - is there a way to get back in or does it start from the beginning? I am VERY NEW at this and hope I have not lost all....Thanks.

You have a couple of options. Both involve using an FTP utility, either from your host provider or your a utility like Filezilla.

You can download functions.php to your desktop and repair it (use a code editor like Notepad++. Then upload the repaired file and replace the old one.

You can also get an original copy of functions.php from the theme you are using. Then upload it using the FTP utility and replace the damaged one.

I suspect from the error code that you deleted an extra closing curly bracket.

There are better ways to remove comments from your posts then messing with the code.
