Could you just be more clear ?
[1] May we have an URL where we can see it in action
[2] Where do you see the "pieces missing"... ? In the preview when you try to activate the theme in the admin panel, or on your live site when the theme is activated ?
[3] What pieces are "missing" ?

on the preview they show up however when I open my url....well you can see. For instance I currently have the theme Blue Drop loaded (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/blue-drop). And only the background shows up on my live site. I've tried several themes and it happens to all of them.
Thanks for your Interest Simon.
Well, I don't know for other themes you tried, but did you upload the /images directory that normally comes with that theme... ?
If I pick any backgroud image defined in the css style sheet it leads to a 404 not found...
For instance :
http://melissajdesign.com/wp-content/themes/Blue-Drop/images/faux.jpg
I'm not even able to reach the /images directory itself...

well for this specific theme the image files were not in an image folder when I downloaded the theme. All image files were loose with the other files. Does that make a difference? Should I create and image subfolder?
Mel
As long as the style sheet specify that the background images are in /images, yes, you need to have a yourtheme/images directory... Otherwise, it will never works...
I just have a look at this theme and there is obviously a /images directory with all images files in...
Don't know how you manipulated the zip file, but the /image directory is clearly there...

I'm not sure how I did that either then, I'm really new to this stuff. Guess it shows. Thanks for all the help SimonJ. I really appreciate it!
