Help! Link to my theme and its CSS file is broken! (15 posts)

    I'm running WP 3.0.1 with the Twenty-Ten theme. Suddenly this morning I get no styles, just raw HTML, without header image or background image. Yuck!

    W3C CSS Validator says : style.css: Not Found (as well as styles for Google Calendar Events, Sociable-30 and Google-Calendar Widget Not Found). Turning off all the plugins doesn't help. If it were HTML I'd check the header for a broken link to my CSS sheet, but I'm stumped here.

    I don't know where to begin to repair this. I've reinstalled Twenty-Ten after saving my tweaked old copy of it, but no dice. So it's not the theme. I reuploaded the style.css file, also nothing.

    I'm going out of my mind! I was just ready to publicly launch it after weeks of development, but now this! Any ideas?

    Have you tried contacting your hosts?

    Hi esmi,
    Thanks for responding. Yes, I called Godaddy. They led me to Content>File Manager>History and we tried restoring a couple of "changed" files back to yesterday's "snapshot." It didn't help.

    Also, I tried a Plugin that says I'm doing Maintenance....it wouldn't work either!

    These all 404 for me.

    //jimsrootsandblues.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/bg-fade-slice2.png

    //jimsrootsandblues.com/wp-content/themes/twentyten/style.css

    //jimsrootsandblues.com/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/js/jquery-qtip.js

    That means that files located in three different directories inside of /wp-content are not found. Start by checking the condition of everything that should be located inside of /wp-content.

    Any suggestions on how to "check the condition" of this folder? Is there a utility you recommend?

    Yes. An FTP client, or the file manager provided for you in your hosts control panel.

    So, I'm looking at my files and folders in Cyberduck. Any tips on what to look for in this folder that would indicate a problem? This is foreign territory for me. I appreciate any help.

    First, make sure that there's a /wp-content/ directory in the same directory as the wp-load.php file. Then, see if there's a /themes/ directory within that. If so, see if there's a /twentyten/ within that and a style.css file within that. Technically, everything should look like this:

    Thanks for your response, James.
    I checked my flies against the link above, and everything seems to be lined up in its correct directory. That leads me to believe some file got corrupted... What do you think? Overwrite files one-by-one on my ftp client? I already reinstalled TwentyTen....
    Thanks.

    Try re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Thanks, Esmi, but my hopes are crushed again! That didn't work, either.
    Did you mean to delete the old install (excepting wp-config and Content) before uploading a fresh install minus Content?

    I see WP-admin has Images (like my header) and Meta(?) not in a fresh original install, and the site directory itself has: sitemap.xml, wp-config.php, wp-host-update.php also not in the fresh install package. Could any of these be suspicious?

    Thanks.

    sitemap.xml & wp-config.php are needed (the former is produced by a plugin, the latter if your WordPress configuration file). Not sure about wp-host-update.php...

    Are you hosted with Media Temple by any chance? I've seen reports of similar issues from media Temple users today.

    No, I've got Godaddy. I don't know why but do you think this might be a database problem?

    Wow! Even before it's been officially launched. It's only been up a few weeks.
