    Hello,
I'm brand new to wordpress so be gentle.I'm trying to leave a static message on my "homepage" such as a welcome or something, but I can't figure out how to do this without it becoming a post. I don't mind having post under it, but I'd like to have an introduction to my site without having to have an introduction page. Is there a plug-in for this and if so, how do I use it. thanks

    L

It also depends on the theme you are using.
    1. You can hardcode it in the index.php file - eventually with a conditional statement (see: Conditional_Tags) to be shown only on the main(=home) page.
    2. Or, see a more complicated (sophisticated?, LOL) way here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/52559#post-288301

Easiest way: download and install the Adhesive plugin from http://www.asymptomatic.net/wp-hacks
