   Hi all,

   I am totally new to blogging and/or creating a blog, but I run a fashion retail website and would like to create a lifestyle blog alongside it, and I was wondering anyone could give me some advice please:

   As this is a retail site, I would like the blog to look exactly like the site so that people do not feel like they have been diverted elsewhere if they go on to the blog.

   I would like the blog to have a magazine-style look, and I have seen a few themes I like but I'm wondering: are these themes customisable or do I have to build my blog from scratch and incorporate the features I like from these themes?

   I read somewhere that if I want to use plugins, I have to host the blog myself. Is this true? What does this then mean to me? What do I have to do as I do want to add SEO plugins and such? Does this have to do with the dot com version of this site as opposed to the dot org?

   Also, the retail site is being re-designed at the moment, so I wanted to get the blog going first and then customize it as and when the design is ready. Is this possible without losing content?

   Please help - total newbie!!

   In that case, you would have to turn your current site's design into a WordPress theme. See Theme_Development.

   Most themes are customisable.

   Yes.

   Yes. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

   Is this possible without losing content?

   Yes. all of the blog's content will be stored in a database. The theme merely controls how it is displayed.

   One more question please: can I start on WP dot com and then later migrate to dot org without losing my archives? Even if I use a free theme?

   Sorry, found an article on it on ye olde internet - apparently, the geniuses at WP have thought of this too!
