    I have obviously lost my mind.
    I set up my wordpress and finally finished it, so being the fool I am changed my WP admin settings Site URL to point at my domain name.

    I currently had a website up and running on the URL, but the program I was using was rubbish and wouldn't let me do any online editing so I thought WordPress was a better way to go.

    I tried following the instructions about updating index.php and htaccess but that just fried everything. So I put them back to the way they were before I changed anything and now my old website doesn't work and I can't access my admin dashboard on WP.

    Is there any way I can do something clever and fix it all? It took me so long to get the WP site exactly how I wanted it and now it's all gone :(

    I tried going back in my browser to the settings page but I just kept getting a 404 message.

    Please clever people, can you help me?

    Thank you!

    To get the site back, you can change the settings for WP_HOME & WP_SITEURL by adding a couple of lines into your wp-config
    eg:

    define('WP_HOME','http://example.com');
    define('WP_SITEURL','http://example.com');

    see http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

    Then to make the domain point to the WordPress site, http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress might help

    Thanks. It didn't work though - still no blog :(
    Although my old website is back - but it's looking really buggy.
